About The Scottish Rat Club
The Scottish Rat Club (SRC) was set up in 2001 by three dedicated individuals, Fiona McBean and Brenda and Kenny Dunn, to promote the keeping of rats as pets and to encourage people to show their rats in a competitive but companionable atmosphere, and it grew into a vibrant and thriving community of rat lovers. At the end of the 2009, they decided that it was time to spend their time on other things and the Scottish Rat Club Committee was formed early in 2010 by Karren McArdle.
Although with our heart firmly in Scotland we welcome members from all over the UK, and beyond, and hope to continue to grow and provide fun, friendship and information for ratty-minded folks for long to come.
Shows
We currently hold shows five times a year across Scotland, held mainly in central Scotland but also with venues in Perth and Dumfries planned for 2011. We are affiliated to the National Fancy Rat Society and rats are judged to the NFRS standards of excellence by NFRS judges. All of our shows for 2011 are starred shows. As well as Varieties classes we also hold Pet Classes. We also have a raffle, kitchen, club shop and fun activites for all the family. For more details on shows and showing, please see our Shows page.
Committee
The SRC is run for it's members by a committee. Members can have their say on the running of their club at an annual AGM and vote for the election of committee members. As well as committee members, there are also a number of committee appointed posts and club worker positions. Contact details for our committee members are on the contact page.
Getting rats
If you are interested in getting rats, either for pets or breeding, a good place to start is the SRC breeders list. SRC members can choose to go on the breeders list and their details are also on the website. If you are a member of the SRC and would like your details to go on the breeders list, please contact our chairman.
SRC accepts no responsibility for kittens bought, sold or exchanged via contacts made from this list and advises all breeders and potential owners to make any checks they feel necessary before entering into any agreement for rehoming of kittens.
Club Membership
Becoming a member of the club gives you full access to the online Members forum, our bi-monthly newsletter and exhibiting at all of our shows. Full details of the Benefits and how to join are on the Benefits and Joining page.
