Exotic Horse Racing Bets Explained

Exotic Horse Racing wagering is when you stake on more than one outcome. This could mean you bet on the winners of more than one race, or that you wager on the successive finishers of just one race. The idea is simply to choose more than one outcome for your slip. If all your picks come in correctly, you will win. If not, you lose. So, if only a portion succeeds, you will forfeit your money. There is no partial winning here, which is part of why it is so exciting, and why it is more profitable.

The Different Types of Exotic Bets

There are many different ways to place these wagers, so you are sure to find one you can handle!

Daily Double Stakes

These are wagers in which two horses will win two consecutive races and it is usually available on the first two and the last two races of any given day.

Exacta Stakes

A bet on two horses to finish in the first and second places in the same race in the exact order you have predicted.

The Pick 3

For the Pick 3, you will be wagering on which three horses will come in first in three consecutive races. You will also be able to place Pick 4s, Pick 5s, and Pick 6s in Horse Race Betting.

They all work similarly, with the number in the name telling you how many consecutive races you have to choose the winners in.

Quinella Wagers

This is a stake on two horses to finish in first and second place in the same race, in any order.

Superfecta Stakes

You will choose four horses to finish in the first, second, third, and fourth positions in the exact order that you said they would.

Trifecta Bets

A wager on three horses to finish in the first, second, and third positions in the same race in that exact order.

Boxing and Wheeling

This is a common way to place these exciting Exotic Horse Racing bets. Box wagers let you choose more horses than the stake originally calls for. So, in an Exacta Box, for example, you could choose three, or even more animals, instead of the traditional two. All possible combinations of the horses you have chosen are then bet on.

If you have chosen an Exacta Box 1-2-3, it would mean you are wagering on the combinations 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-3, 3-1, and 3-2. But bear in mind that, with six possible combinations, the amount you will be staking gets multiplied by six as well, so an AU$2 bet becomes AU$12.

Wheel wagers are the same as Box stakes except that one animal can be selected to finish in a specific place. For example, if you believe that the No. 1 horse will win the race but aren’t sure whether Nos. 2 or 3 will come in second, you can stake Exacta Wheel 1 with 2 and 3. This is a bet covering 1-2 and 1-3.
